Purpose and Scope

The IAIMS Consortium is sponsoring a panel, poster session, and dinner program at the AMIA annual meeting in Chicago on Tuesday, November 13, 2007. Included in your regular meeting registration is access to the 90 minute IAIMS-sponsored scientific panel session and evening poster session. A special ticketed dinner will take place on-site following the poster session. Program information can be found at:  http://www.amia.org/meetings/f07/iaims.asp

Panel Session - Data Exchange in the Acute Care Setting

The multi-institutional panel will draw from the collective experience of three different data exchange projects that range from plan to post-implementation. Data exchange projects have focused on collecting and redistributing clinical data primarily through local collaboration. Common challenges have included securing stakeholder buy-in, establishing stable financial models, and instituting policies that protect patient data while providing appropriate access.

This panel will be held from 3:30-5:00 pm.

Panel speakers include:

J.T. Finnell, MD, MSc, Regenstrief INPC network

Mark Lipton, MD, New York NYCLIX project

Jeffrey Saver, MD, UCLA Stroke Network telemedicine initiative

Alan G. Robinson, MD, Moderator, UCLA School of Medicine

These panelists will discuss strategies for tackling the organizational and financial aspects of data exchange projects and explore the potential of expanding local networks to improve a specific patient outcome measure.

Poster Session

The poster session will provide a forum for illustrating and discussing participants' latest information technology, knowledge management, and health informatics or bioinformatics projects. This session will be held in one section of the main AMIA evening poster session on Tuesday, November 13 from 5-7 pm.

Dinner Event

Dinner will follow the evening poster session and give attendees the opportunity to further discuss projects and ideas. Featured speaker, Donald Levick of Lehigh Valley Hospital Network, will give a dynamic presentation on his organization's remote ICU monitoring system. Dinner is a ticketed event at $55 per person and tickets may be purchased through the AMIA registration form.

Registration and dinner ticket information can be found at: http://www.amia.org/meetings/f07/rates.asp
