IAIMS Progress Report to IAIMS Consortium
March 5, 2002
IAIMS Survey:
Early in the planning cycle, a web-based information resources needs assessment survey was developed by the IAIMS Planning Council. The survey was installed inside the LUHS IAIMS web site. Participation was intended for all employees of the LUHS enterprise. A staged approach was used. From April through June 2001, Planning Council members (n=15) and information resources needs teams (n=51) were asked to complete the on-line survey. As the teams began needs assessment interviews, their interviewees (n=300) were asked to complete the survey from August to October 2001. Survey results are available at the LUHS IAIMS web site.
IAIMS Team Reports: Six information resource needs teams were created. Five were content domains: administrative, education, knowledge-based, patient management (clinical), and research. The sixth team focused on system attributes and is known as the Technology Support Team. The content domain teams assessed information resource needs while the Technology Support Team completed a systems inventory and considered system architecture to support the needs identified by the content teams. Each team determined priority ranking of its content needs using a technique that entailed rating content needs on criteria based on the strategic mission, vision, and goals of the LUHS enterprise as well as impact on the LUHS enterprise of meeting the need. The result was five sets of content needs with priority rank and a list of system attribute needs.
IAIMS Retreat: Content needs were reported to Planning Council along with the Technology Support Team's inventories and architecture analysis. Each team presented its findings to the other teams at IAIMS Retreat held on December 7, 2001. In addition to participation by team members, external consultants and key LUHS leadership attended the full-day retreat.
IAIMS Project Education and Evaluation: The planning grant has been the catalyst for creating an information integration seminar series on the Maywood campus of the LUHS enterprise. The Grant Education Task Force reviewed planning grant deliverables, discussed strategies to accomplish those tasks, and initiated a bimonthly seminar series. The Power Point slide shows presented at the seminars may be found on the LUHS IAIMS web site. The seminars have included:
- October 31, 2001 - Knowledge Management to Improve Patient Care, presented by Prudence Dalrymple, Ph.D., Dean and Associate Professor, Dominican University
- January 23, 2002 - Data Warehousing and Mining in Health Care, presented by Linda Salchenberger, Ph.D., Director, Center for Information Management and Technology
- March 27, 2002 - Patricia Button, Ed.D., RN, AMIA Nursing Informatics Work Group 2001-2002 Chair, Senior Product Manger for Patient Care Content at Cerner Corporation.
